I’ve been receiving a lot of messages & questions about my wedding makeup, so I wanted to take the time to discuss it! First off, I did my makeup along with my mom & bridesmaids. There’s really not anything I was super controlling about with my wedding other than my own personal makeup. Make-up is the one thing i am overly passionate about & something I know I am good at. I was not going to let anyone touch my face on the day that mattered most of all to me. There isn’t anything wrong with hiring a make up artist, I personally love doing make up for people on their wedding day, prom, or event. It adds to the “specialness” of your day being pampered by someone else doing your makeup. Me however, doing my own makeup helped calm my nerves, plus I enjoyed pampering my bridesmaids & mom. So with that, lets get to the products I used & some tips & tricks!
SKINCARE
I can not stress enough that skincare is the most important thing in the world. Your skin is your largest organ, take care of it!! Learn your skin type, and use the products to help it. My biggest piece of advice is DO NOT start a new skincare product right before your wedding. Stick to what is currently working for you or start months in advance trying new products to see how your face will react. You do not want to try a heavy moisturizer and wake up covered in bumps and pimples because it was too oily the day of your wedding. There isn’t anything wrong with having “imperfections” but stick to the products your skin doesn’t react to.
I have combination skin — which it really fluctuates on whether it wants to be oily or normal. My “T-Zone” is for the most part always oily. So far the products I have been using have been working dreams for my skin. I have never had skin that really broke out to an extreme. I tend to have redness & a few pimples here and there, but it also depends on my hormones (being a woman can be a joy).
The following are products I have found that work for MY SKIN.
**Just a little reminder, what works for me might not work for you. I will always recommend a patch test to make sure your skin doesn’t react.
MASK - Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask - Now this mask is extremely thick, but I found over the winter months that its been a lifesaver because my skin was feeling dry, however if you have oily skin, and just feel like you need hydration just make sure you wash that mask off do not sleep with it on. This isn’t something I use everyday, it a once a week treat I give my skin.
Cleanser- KORRES Greek Yoghurt Foaming Cream Cleanser
Serum - OleHenriksen Truth Serum
Moisturizer - Saturday Skin & TATCHA - The Water Cream
** I will do a separate skin care routine post. If you have any questions about the skincare I use, just ask! :)
MAKEUP
Primer - BECCA Backlight Priming Filter Face Primer & MAKE UP FOR EVER Step 1 Skin Equalizer Primer Matte Finish
Since my skin gets pretty oily in my T-Zone I have come to love the MAKE UP FOR EVER Matte Primer I use this directly on my oily T-Zone spots and it keeps the shine away! I use Becca Backlight Primer on the rest of my face to give me an extra glow, plus it makes my foundation look flawless.
(Just a Little Tip - Avoid SPF primer & foundation on your wedding day because it will cause a white cast on your face if the photographer is using flash.)
Foundation - Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation (Shade - Y255)
This has been the love of my life holy grail foundation. It doesnt feel cakey on your face, it’s a nice porcelain finish. I like it a lot because it doesnt sink in and show imperfections like others I have tried.
(Just a Little Tip - make sure you take your foundation down your neck….:) )
Concealer - Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer (Light Pale) & NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (Custard)
These are both my go to concealers I mainly highlight with the maybelline and tone the brightness down with the NARS concealer. I use the concealer after I put on my foundation with the same damp beauty blender.
Powder - Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder (Natural Finish)
This has been my go to powder, I never wanted to believe the hype because it’s not exactly cheap, but nothing melts into your makeup as well as this powder.
(Just a Little Tip - Apply with a damp beauty blender & let it sit for a few minutes then take a large powder brush and wipe it away)
Contour - Kat Von D Shade + Light Face Contour Refillable Palette
I use a mixture with the first two contour shades with the morphe M447. I mainly place my contour under the cheek bone, look at the top of your ear and angle it towards your lip.
Highlight - Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter (moonstone) I love all of Becca’s highlighters, they’re super pigmented and long lasting. This was the perfect one for my wedding. I reccommend not doing a blinding highlight though because the lights/sun will make it blinding in the camera.
Eyebrows - Anastasia Beverly Hills DIPBROW Pomade (Medium Brown)
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel (Clear)
A classic & renown eyebrow product and brand Anastasia is the best. There is something about a bold brow that really frames your face. Everyone has that special way of doing their brows, I do them after i put on foundation/concealer only because I like the way the product Grips when it has a base. It also makes everything look blended and clean. The brow gel seals the deal and will make sure your brows don’t budge. Any time I wear glasses if I’m not using the clear gel i will have the brow product all over my glasses.
Mascara - Lancôme Monsieur Big Waterproof Mascara
This mascara was insanely good for a wedding day. If you think you will be remotely emotional BUY THIS. It was a great applicator it made my lashes nice and thick.
(Just a little tip! - Please use coconut oil on your eyes to get this off after or I promise you, you will pull off/damage your lashes. Just put some in your finger tips & rub into your eyes and let sit. )
Eyeshadow - Kat Von D Eyeshadow Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette
This will always be my favorite eyeshadow palette. I have very hooded eyelids, so I tend to wear matte shades that make my eyes look bigger. Shimmers & glitters tend to enhance my hooded eyes, plus on my wedding day I didn’t want my eyes to scream or be distracting just needed them to pop! I used the middle section of colors. The key is lighter colors in the inner eye to darker colors on the outer eye.
Lipstick - Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick (Exorcism)
Kat Von D & Jeffree Star are my two trusted brands when it comes to liquid lipsticks. Reds will always be tricky colors to wear all day so I highly highly highly recommend when you put on foundation put it also on your lips. Then, when you put on powder powder your lips, I know this sounds very drying, however this will help immensely with the “bleeding or spidering” of the lipstick. Especially if you’re eating things like parsley potatoes the oils and sauces tend to make your lipstick melt.
Setting Spray - Urban decay De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray
With my oily skin this it what works the best for me. Urban Decay is famous for their setting sprays, i have tried the regular setting spray as well, and it works great just not as good as the De-slick because of my T-zone oiliness.
I hope this answers the majority of questions people were wondering! Feel free to shoot me an email if you have any other questions!
